PowaCycle

Description

PowaCycle is the name behind affordable electrically assisted pedal cycles with advanced features as standard. Switching to an electric bike from a conventionally powered vehicle reduces urban pollution. An electric bike is a true ‘dual power’ vehicle, using both the rider's energy assisted by a battery powered motor, to give an effortless riding experience. PowaCycle bikes can travel up to 37 miles between recharges and at speeds up to 15mph under power alone.

An electric bike cuts urban journey time in cities. Models are available with diamond frame, step-over frames and lightweight folding frames. Both power assisted pedalling and throttle control are available. The throttle boosts power to hill climb an enables individuals with joint problems to ride without using the pedals. In 2007 PowaCycle were the first UK manufacturer to launch Lithium Polymer powered electric bikes providing long range travel from a lightweight battery.

The Otesha Project UK

Description

At the heart of the Otesha Project you’ll find a two-wheeled revolution. Every summer teams of volunteers pedal across the UK stopping at schools, youth clubs, festivals and community events to inspire individuals to take creative and positive action towards a more sustainable future. Tour members receive plenty of training and get skilled up on everything from consensus decision making to bike maintenance.

So – What’s it like to be on tour?

Tour members will be part of a mobile community of around 15 people who share roles such as meal planning, cooking, meeting facilitation, record keeping, presenting workshops, equipment maintenance, the planning of wild and fun group activities, and all importantly being inspired and inspiring others to live more sustainably!

The tour this year is called Totally Tasty and is totally coastal, well, mostly! For 3 weeks we’ll be rolling across lowlands along the South-East coast line sampling the region’s flourishing sustainable food projects and sharing our workshops with schools, youth groups, and communities along the way.

Totally Tasty Tour Dates: 6th – 27th July 2013
This tour will give you the best of both our signature six week tours and our new food-themed tour, with time dedicated to learning about food sustainability through diverse visits and volunteering opportunities alongside delivering workshops in schools.

Our FAQs are helpful too if you want to know more about the tour!

Big Green Coach

Description

Big Green Coach is the largest events travel company in the UK, working with more festivals and gigs than any other provider, getting fans straight to the action.

In 2013 and 2014, Big Green Coach helped take 160,000 fans to their favourite music events and for each customer the company sponsored five square feet of rainforest in Ashaninka, Peru. This means that 800,000 square feet – equivalent to 18 acres (or an area the size of 10 x Wembley Stadium pitches) – of rainforest is now protected for 10 years.

In addition to the area itself, Big Green Coach’s customers have helped protect 4,320 trees and shelter over 16,300 animals, of which 38 are Endangered Species. The money contributed to Cool Earth will support 4,300 people working out in Peru, as well as produce 684,000 litres of water every year. This comes in addition to ensuring that over 4,600 tonnes of CO2 is stored.

Offering return Travel and Ticket+Travel packages, and serving as Official provider to many festivals, Big Green Coach picks up from over 100 locations across the UK. Even better, all coaches are timetabled to arrive before the music begins and to depart once the music has finished so you won't miss any of the action.

PLUSBUS

Description

PLUSBUS is a cheap bus pass that you buy with your train ticket at any National Rail station ticket office or online. It gives you unlimited bus and tram travel (on participating operators services) to and from the rail station and around the whole urban area of the rail served town. You can buy one for the start of your journey and/or for the end of it. PLUSBUS is available for 290 rail-served towns and cities across Britain.

PLUSBUS is accepted for travel on services of over 200 bus companies across Britain and on trams in Birmingham, Blackpool, Nottingham, Sheffield and Wolverhampton.

Its very convenient: you can buy your train and PLUSBUS tickets together in one transaction for a complete door-to-door journey. PLUSBUS tickets are printed on National Rail ticket stock. They have '+BUS' printed after the name of the town for which they are valid.

PLUSBUS is cheaper than the cost of driving and parking at the station, or paying for a taxi. Adult PLUSBUS fares start from £2 a day. Railcard holders (like students) get 33% off PLUSBUS day ticket prices. Children (under 16's) get 50% off.

The company boasts a fully-electric, zero-emission fleet and has ambitious plans for expansion. Thriev's mission is to work with multiple stakeholders, ranging from governmental bodies and NGOs to large FTSE 100 corporations. The partnerships formed by Thriev will influence not only the company's immediate users, but also everyone in the capital by providing a cleaner, safer and more sustainable environment for London. The practical implication of using innovative companies like Thriev is that every five-mile journey prevents 1kg of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere, along with a myriad of other harmful gases, emissions and particulates. London Pedicabs

Description

London Pedicabs was one of the first companies to operate this novel green transport in the UK. We have been a leading force in introducing new innovative ideas that have assisted the industry in growing from just 30 to the 1400 pedicabs that are now operating in London.

London Pedicabs have been operating in central London for almost 14 years as an eco-friendly transport option. We have worked very closely with the authorities to implement a code of practice for our industry and have pushed hard to get pedicabs fully licensed and accountable.

Our team of riders have a multicultural background and great knowledge of London and the British culture.

We are also very proud to have played a key role not only as a carbon neutral transport operator but also as a sustainable eco transport system, safe and affordable, and most importantly pedicabs will leave a legacy to our riders the “London Ambassadors” bringing hundreds of unskilled youth back to the workforce.

Journey Solutions

Description

Journey Solutions is a not-for-profit partnership of Britain's five leading bus and train operators, along with trade organisations ATOC, ALBUM and CPT. Our focus is improving integration between train and bus services, with emphasis on operators sharing best-practice in order to make real and practical improvements to passenger’s door-to-door journeys.

The Journey Solutions partnership is best known as the group behind the development, funding and on-going management of PLUSBUS ticketing. This is Britain’s only nation-wide integrated train to bus ticketing scheme - see www.plusbus.info

PLUSBUS is a National Rail ticket that is bought with train tickets from rail station ticket offices, by telephone and from most online rail ticket retailers (including: www.thetrainline.com). PLUSBUS gives the train traveller unlimited local bus travel around the whole urban area of the railserved town that's at the start and/or the end of their train journey.

In Britain, over half of all passengers travelling on the National Rail network start or finish their journey using another form of transport, in order to get to and from the railway stations they use. 13% of train travellers use the bus for their journey to the railway station.

Most railway station car parks are full by the end of the morning peak and there is growing concern about worsening traffic congestion around stations. In Britain cars produce 58% of all domestic transport greenhouse gas emissions (buses produce just 2.3% and trains 1.9%). Most train companies are therefore keen to see improved bus (and tram) services to and from their railway stations, so that train travellers find it easier, more convenient and better value-for-money to travel to and from the station by bus (or tram).

Making it easier and more convenient for train travellers to buy tickets for their entire door-to-door journey in one transaction (at a time to suit them) is a key factor in making public transport more attractive. Customers want to pay for their complete journey in one go and have confidence that they have got a good deal. PLUSBUS ticketing is an essential part of this package. Now that PLUSBUS day tickets can be bought online, we're getting closer to achieving our vision. Indeed 50% of PLUSBUS day tickets are now bought online. Britain is the only country in Europe where it is possible to buy, with your train ticket, a bus pass for travel to and from the railway stations that you use, wherever in the country you are going.

Life Cycle UK

Description

Life Cycle is a small, energetic, innovative and committed Bristol-based charity helping local people transform their lives through cycling.

Many people take cycling for granted – they can just hop on a bike and roll down the road whenever they like. But for many others it just isn’t that simple. That’s where Life Cycle UK comes in. We want to take the joys and benefits of cycling and bikes to everyone.

Life Cycle has been working since 1996 to help people of all ages and abilities get cycling. We help people build confidence to get the most out of bikes and encourage them to make bicycling part of their everyday lives by offering cycle training and maintenance services to individuals, schools and businesses.

We also support people with disabilities, mental health illness, offenders, older people and disadvantaged young people to gain benefits from cycling and bikes through our inclusive cycling projects.

Co-wheels Car Club CIC

Description

Co-wheels is the only independently-owned national car club, providing low emission, hybrid and electric cars on a pay-as-you-go basis for organisations and communities across the UK.

Trading as a social enterprise means a commitment to improve society and environment. Our primary focus is to help our members to save money, reduce car ownership and create a cleaner environment by making lower impact transport options available to everyone. The Co-wheels team look to create opportunities for innovative projects:

  • Continually seeking ways to partner with local and national transport operators to integrate our services.
  • Introducing electric vehicles wherever possible; ensuring they are accessible and appealing by introducing a zero mileage fee, and making them our most affordable cars to hire.
  • We are pioneering electric bike hire for employees, and our first on-street e-bike hire in Inverness.

GoCarShare

Description

Driving somewhere? Say no to empty seats. Get your car seats earning money and meet fun people by sharing the journey.

Need a lift? No problem! Search for someone who will drive you to your destination. The cost? goCarSharing is virtually always the cheapest way to travel.

Irrespective of whether you are a potential passenger or a potential driver, the first thing to do is to login via facebook. If you are looking to drive, you create a GoCarShare request by simply entering the details about the journey that you are planning on making. Passengers will then search for suitable people to GoCarShare with. They will then apply and/or message the driver.

Because GoCarShare is linked with Facebook it is easy to find out information about fellow users, such as whether you have friends in common, their interests, or university attended.

The driver then lets the passenger know whether they can share with them by accepting them if it suits, or declining them if it doesn't. Once the journey is complete, leave each other feedback to help future GoCarSharers.

If at any point you need advice at all, just drop us a line at hello@gocarshare.com - we'll be more than happy to answer any questions.

Econokit UK

Description

We offer a cost effective way of cutting pollution and saving fuel with a retro-fit fuel enhancing kit called Econokit. Econokit was designed by engineers to significantly reduce the amount of emissions (including CO2) produced by internal combustion engines and improves fuel economy by on average 10% for diesel and petrol engines and 5% for LPG fuelled engines.

With an Econokit installed we have seen in excess of a 50% reduction in smoke emitted from diesel engines, this reduction is due to the cleaner burning of the fuel in the combustion chamber. Although Econokit is innovative and unique, the product design is deceptively simple, it has evolved over the last seven years and has been in use globally for over three years. It is easy to understand and see how it works.

How it works: Econokit uses rain water or de-mineralised/distilled water. It breaks the rain water down into a humid mist, through a bubbler in the reservoir and a unique patented exhaust manifold mounted reactor process, transforms the mist into a gas and superheated steam. The gas/mist acts as a catalyst to enhance combustion of the fuel inside the engine's combustion chamber.

Eco Cars

Description

My name is Jonathan Porterfield and, together with my wife Ursula, I run eco cars from our home in Leicestershire. After working at various car dealerships over the years I've built up a good relationship with many local and nationwide dealers, who often contact me as main dealers still look at electric hybrid or LPG vehicles, and scratch their heads and not know what they have in front of them.

Working from home means we keep our costs low, by not having a huge showroom, but you still have the same consumer rights as when purchasing a vehicle from a franchised dealer.

We are passionate about alternatively-fuelled vehicles and we specialize in sourcing them at the lowest possible cost to you, the customer.

Please feel free to talk to us anytime, no question is too silly, as after buying a house a vehicle purchase is one of the most expensive commitments you'll make, and you need to be confident you’re buying the right vehicle, and from the right dealer.

As petrol and diesel prices continue to rise and greenhouse gases increase, LPG, hybrid and electric vehicles are the most realistic green solutions today. If you can't see the car or van you're looking for on the website, give us a ring and we'll find it for you.
