The Thermal Blind Company

The Thermal Blind Company makes made-to-measure thermal blinds. These are traditional roman blinds with a modern twist - a highly energy efficient thermal core with a unique magnetic edge seal. They are ideal for historic buildings, or where you just don’t want to replace your existing windows, and are particularly suitable for sashes. They are an affordable alternative to secondary glazing and offer a high quality window dressing and blackout.

The blinds are made of five layers; Polyester facing fabric, Aluminised Mylar, 7mm Thinsulate, Mylar, polyester lining. Powerful magnets are stitched inside the blinds & self-adhesive magnets secure the edges of the blind to the existing window frame when closed, sealing them around the perimeter. They have high quality chain-driven headrails.

Initial tests show that the blinds reduce the U-Value of a typical single-glazed window from around 4.8 W/sq.mK to around 1.8-2.0 W/sq.mK, similar to the figure for triple glazing. Technical report available on the website.

Now installed in 5 ‘Retrofit for the Future’ projects and monitored in two. March 2011, Innovation Future Zone at Ecobuild; March 2011 Sunday Times (Julia Kendell). March 2012, PEA Award for Best Energy Saving Idea.
