FairWild Week

21st-27th August 2017

Event Description

Whether in medicine, cosmetics, food or drink, wild plant ingredients are everywhere. Yet, despite their increasing use, consumer awareness concerning the origin and sustainability of wild plants is still very low.

This August, TRAFFIC, FairWild, Pukka Herbs and others will be taking part in FairWild Week, a digital campaign aimed at raising awareness about the FairWIld Standard and inspiring consumers to find out about the role played by wild plants in their daily lives. Check out FairWild on twitter and facebook to find out more or test your wild plant knowledge with the FairWild quiz!

About the Organiser

FairWild Foundation
Established in 2008, the FairWild Foundation promotes the sustainable use of wild-collected ingredients, with a fair deal for all those involved throughout the supply chain.

The increasing demand for wild plants – as ingredients for food, cosmetics, well-being and medicinal products – poses major ecological and social challenges. The pressure on potentially vulnerable plant species can endanger local ecosystems and the livelihoods of collectors, who often belong to the poorest social groups in the countries of origin.

As a response to these concerns, the FairWild Foundation is working with partners worldwide to improve the conservation, management and sustainable use of wild plants in trade, as well as the livelihoods of rural harvesters involved in collection.

As a key tool to achieve this goal, we maintain the FairWild Standard and certification system for the sustainable management and collection of wild plants.
