River Cottage Cookery School in Devon has beaten dozens of other cookery schools from across the UK to win the accolade of Best Large Recreational Cookery School at the British Cookery School Awards. Results were announced on Monday 17 November at the awards ceremony held at Porchester Hall in London. The event was hosted by head judge and BBC Radio 2's food and drink broadcaster Nigel Barden. Yooji’s flaked cod: the world’s first MSC-certified babyfood product

The MSC label appears on over 23,000 sustainable seafood products distributed in over 100 countries worldwide, but until now has not been seen on a babyfood product. This October, French company Yooji has launched frozen cod portions prepared solely with cod procured from MSC-certified sources.

Yooji is an Aquitaine-based, 2012 start-up specialising in environmentally-friendly frozen babyfood. After initially producing frozen vegetable purées in 20g portions, it is now expanding its range by launching two 100% protein products including the MSC-certified flaked cod portions. Read more »

Vauxhall Motors signs long term contract with vehicle recycling company Autogreen

The contract ensures that all Vauxhall vehicles handled by Autogreen that have reached the end of their life are disposed of and recycled using the very latest, most environmentally friendly methods and meeting the legislative requirements set out in the European End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive.

Vauxhall has been working with recyclable materials (recyclates) in its vehicles since 1990 and now thanks to its Design for Recycling strategy, more than 200 recyclates are used across the range allowing it to use 45,000 tons of recycled materials in new vehicles every year. Read more »

Bryn Elltyd Eco Guesthouse beat the reputation and resources of Best Western Hotels' Old Tollgate, in Suffolk, and Park Plaza London (with its 396 bedrooms) to take the Green Team of the Year title in the Considerate Hoteliers Awards 2014. Eco coffee roasters Origin Coffee launch the first speciality espresso bar in Selfridge’s London Food Hall

Origin Coffee are the first speciality coffee brand to have a concession in Selfridge’s Food Hall in London, joining the prestigious brands Melrose and Morgan and Daylesford Organic. The collaboration highlights the speciality coffee revolution taking over the UK.

As well as launching their Espresso Bar, Origin Coffee are also taking over the Oxford Street window, showcasing their retail coffee boxes. Selfridges has been stocking the seasonal collection of the speciality coffee brand since April, 2014. Read more »

Plan A in action as M&S launches frisbee made from litter collected at Big Beach Clean-Up

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has launched the Beach Clean Frisbee made from recycled plastic, including some plastic from litter collected by M&S customers and employees. The frisbee turns rubbish such as plastic cups, fishing tackle and bottle tops discarded onto Britain's beaches into a brand new product.

The launch of the frisbee coincides with this year’s Big Beach Clean-Up (which runs until the 30th April) and is on sale now at M& and in six costal M&S stores – Belfast (Abbey Centre), Bexhill, Lytham St Annes, Silverlink Retail Park, Weston Super Mare and Edinburgh Kinnaird. Read more »

Outdoor apparel company Haglöfs donates trees with a new app

This Spring Haglöfs, the Swedish outdoor company which has put sustainability at its core, is launching an app which aims to connect its customers' outdoor activities with tree planting in East Africa. The app sends out weekly challenges and for each completed challenge Haglöfs donates a tree to the organization Vi Agroforestry, which in turn plants the tree in the area around Lake Victoria.
