The Wales Coast Path could be the perfect place to while away some of the bank holiday weekend according to Environment Minister, John Griffiths.

The Minister has urged people to get out and enjoy the beautiful scenery that can be viewed around the 870 mile coast path, and to indulge in a bit of healthy exercise along the way.

“In May this year Wales became the first country in the world to boast a continuous path around its coast. It is a fabulous resource and one that we hope will entice lots more visitors to Wales and provide a real boost to our economy.

“However I have always hoped that people living in Wales would also make good use of this unique path and that it would encourage them to get out and about, get active and experience the beauty of the Welsh coast.

“The path has been designed to cater for walkers of all abilities and as sections of it include access for horse riders, cyclists, wheel chairs users and prams it really does offer something for everyone,” Griffiths said.

When the Path was officially opened in May, Wales became the first country in the world to have a continuous path along its coastline. Eight new leaflets, each focussing on a different area of the Path, are now available. The leaflets provide useful information about the different sections of the path, specifying the difficulty ratings of various walks and providing lots of information on local attractions and amenities. They are available at local tourism centres, supermarkets, service stations and tourism sites.
