Are cargo bikes the solution to the “click-and-deliver” society?

    Date: June 12, 2019

Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Londoners and London businesses are demanding ever more deliveries of goods, all at the click of a button. The freight and servicing industry in London has grown by 39% in the last 25 years to reflect this. But as we continue to order more goods at the click of a button, to be delivered as soon as possible, how can the businesses that deliver to us ensure that they don’t cause more congestion, pollution, global warming and accidents? And can they save money and boost their green credentials by choosing environmentally-friendlier alternatives, such as cargo and e-cargo bikes? For this event we are bringing together a select choice of businesses small and large that have implemented sustainable delivery solutions. We’ll hear 4-5 talks on the benefits and challenges of using cargo/ e-cargo bikes for deliveries. Confirmed speakers so far include: Michael Jones, of Drings – a local traditional butcher in Greenwich, who have made cargo bikes the transport of choice to deliver meat and poultry to customers. Drings’ owner, Michael Jones, has pitted his usual delivery van against a brand new e-cargo bike to see which is better for the environment as well as for his business. Laura Parry of Zero Emissions Network (ZEN) – an organisation that has supported a number of businesses in moving to cargo bikes, with Lee Sargent, of Calverts Design and Print Coop, a design and print company using cargo bikes for deliveries to their customers. Ben Knowles – Co-founder and Director of Pedal Me – who deliver both goods and people around London, and recently delivered goods to the Crossrail Whitechapel sites twice as quickly as vans, according to London’s Walking and Cycling Commissioner. James FitzGerald, co-founder and Managing Director of e-cargobikes.com/ . They provide last-mile delivery services to grocers and retailers throughout the UK. Recent news from them is the launch of a new delivery service for Coop Group Come and join us with the experts for this exciting evening to discuss how businesses are responding to changing patterns of consumption. 5 reasons to attend: Hear from those with the best practical experience of implementing cargo bike delivery schemes on the pros and cons from a business perspective Understand the grants available to businesses to buy cargo bikes Learn about how the regulatory environment in London is changing, making it more financially viable to invest in solutions like cargo bikes Network with the experts in the field, from businesses themselves to cargo bike retailers, business improvement districts, transport professionals and sustainability experts Debate the fast-changing retail and delivery environment, in which consumers and businesses increasingly demand fast, reliable, low cost and low impact delivery options
