Northern Ireland arm of the sustainable transport charity, Sustrans.

Sustrans is the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity. Its vision is a world where people choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. It is the charity behind practical and innovative solutions to some of the UK’s biggest transport challenges, including the award-winning National Cycle Network, Safe Routes to Schools, Bike It and TravelSmart. The 13,600-mile long National Cycle Network is a comprehensive network of safe and attractive places to cycle and walk throughout the UK, one third of which is traffic free paths, the rest follow quiet lanes or traffic-calmed roads. The Network now runs within two miles of 75 per cent of the UK population and in 2007 was used for over 354million cycling and walking trips. Sustrans’ work relies on the backing of 40,000 Supporters, and the support of charitable trusts, companies, the National Lottery and local authority programmes. Its team of 2,400 volunteer Rangers look after the routes.
