Volkswagen and Ecotricity team up to provide the complete eco-electric driving package

Volkswagen Group in the UK and Ecotricity have signed a partnership deal to provide 100 per cent green energy to all customers purchasing an electric-powered vehicle from one of VW's brands.

Ecotricity became VW Group's preferred supplier for the partnership after discussions with several other energy companies in January earlier this year. The scheme means that any customer purchasing an electric vehicle from one of the Group’s brands will be offered, at the point of sale, the option to adopt Ecotricity’s 100 per cent green tariff for their home and vehicle energy supplies. Ford Motor Company has announced a collaboration with GE in the USA, in which the company will purchase 2,000 Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrids for its fleet – Ford’s largest-ever plug-in electrified vehicle fleet sale. Future Drive Motor Show has evolved from EcoVelocity, the low carbon motor show that attracted 58,000 visitors at its inaugural ExCeL event in 2012. Boeing forecasts $4.5 trillion market for 34,000 new planes over next 20 years

Boeing, the US aircraft manufacturer, has projected a $4.5 trillion market for 34,000 new aeroplanes over the next 20 years as the current world fleet doubles in size.

The figures are contained in the Boeing 2012 Current Market Outlook (CMO), which is released today.

World's loudest bicycle bell is noisier than Concorde

City cyclists who battle to get themselves noticed on the roads can now buy the ultimate deterrent against inattentive truck drivers: a bicycle equipped with a horn that is louder than Concorde.

At close quarters the Hornster bicycle emits 178 decibels; a level of sound so powerful that if used in anger it could deafen any motorist who veered too close.

The Hornster bicycle was developed by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) to highlight the dangers that cyclists face on city roads. Trucks are involved in over half of cyclist fatalities that occur in London. Read more »
